Welcome to Shelby County! On behalf of the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce, it is truly my pleasure to welcome you to Alabama’s fastest growing County. I am thrilled that you have considered making Shelby County your new home. Shelby County is the geographic center of the state of Alabama. It is one of now seven counties comprising the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area. The others are Jefferson, Blount, and St. Clair Counties and three new additions in June 2003-Bibb, Chilton, and Walker.
Chelsea, Columbiana, Harpersville, MT Laurel, Vincent, Wilsonville and Westover are all towns and municipalities that participate in the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is also proud to represent communities such as Shelby, Summer Hill, Bay Springs, and The Kingdom. All of our South Shelby County Communities are full of historical architecture, serene landscapes and rich natural beauty.
Shelby County is located in the state of Alabama in the United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was approximately 225,000 making it the sixth-most populated county in Alabama. Its county seat is Columbiana, but the largest city is Hoover. The county was established in 1818 and named in honor of Isaac Shelby, a Revolutionary War general and the first Governor of Kentucky. Today, it’s part of the Birmingham-Hoover, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Shelby County is known for its high standard of living, with a median household income well above the state average. It also has a strong emphasis on education, with one of the highest percentages of high school graduates in Alabama. The county is a hub for several industries including healthcare, education, and manufacturing. It is home to several points of interest such as Oak Mountain State Park, the largest state park in Alabama, and the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.
